March 12, 2012, marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Canada's greatest poets. Canadians from Cape Breton to Vancouver Island were celebrating Irving Layton. Never before in Canadian history has this country united to honour the life and work of one of its poets.

Irving Layton passed away on January 4th, 2006. He was 93.

Dedication ceremony of Irving Layton Ave., in Montreal, Quebec, took place on Sunday, May 6, 2007.
